AMERICAN SINGERS’ OPERA PROJECT ANNOUNCES WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY AS THEIR NEW HOME

WITH THE MOVE TO WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY, THE WORKSHOP WILL CONTINUE TO GROW

American Singers’ Opera Project is proud to announce that the new home of our Summer Opera Workshop will be on the prestigious Wake Forest University campus. Moving our workshop to a campus that offers diverse summer workshops will allow us to grow, and hopefully expand to a second summer opera workshop for high school students in 2010.

This year we will offer a triple cast “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” in Italian with English recitatives on June 10, 11 and 12 at the Ring Theatre of Wake Forest, as well as Opera Arias in Brendle Recital Hall on June 7 and Opera Scenes, again in Brendle Recital Hall on June 8. Last year our participants came from as far away as Alaska, so we are truly expanding in scope. During our first year we had 25 applications and accepted 18. During our second year, where we were in a larger venue and added an opera, we had 55 applications and accepted 20. In 2009 we had over 70 applications and accepted 21. Almost every singer receives some type of scholarship, and our donors fund most of these scholarships.

Our summer opera workshop features an extremely supportive environment, and utilizes a wide range of methods to educate the whole singer, not just certain aspects of a singer's career. Classes concentrate on performance skills, crossover into Musical Theatre, artistic values, vocal and operatic history as well as professional and ethical standards.
